1. Biometric data
As of 12 October 2015, all Schengen visa applicants are required to provide their biometric data (10 fingerprints and a photo) when applying for a Schengen visa. Therefore, all applicants will have to apply in person.
Exemptions from the fingerprinting requirement are exceptionally, for instance when applicants are children under the age of twelve and in case of persons for whom the collection of fingerprints is physically impossible.
Italy does not require fingerprint collection for national visas.
2. Where to apply
Visa applications are accepted from applicants individually, upon online appointment.
No visa application centers have been authorized to receive visa applications on behalf of the Consular Office of the Embassy of Italy in Ulaanbaatar.
The Consular Office is located at the following address:
ICC Tower, 14th floor Jamiyan Gun Street, 9 1st khoroo, Sukhbaatar district Ulaanbaatar, 14240 Mongolia
Note: Upon your arrival, please refer to the ICC Tower reception located at the ground floor.The receptionist will assist you in coming up to the 14th floor.
3. Who can apply
All Mongolian citizens and citizens of other countries resident in Mongolia can present their visa applications to this Consular Office. However, for citizens of other countries, it is advisable to verify whether they need a visa (http://vistoperitalia.esteri.it)
4. Eligibility
Visa applicants can present their application to this Consular Office, if
a) Italy is the sole destination of travel;
b) Italy is the main destination of travel in terms of length or purpose of stay, in cases where the travel includes more than one Schengen country.
5. Passport requirements
The passport must
a) be issued within the last 10 years;
b) be valid at least 3 months beyond the intended travel period;
c) have at least 2 pages without any stamps or other markings.
6. Visa application processing time
All visa applications processing time is 15 calendar days.
This period may, in individual cases, be extended up to 30 days and, exceptionally, 60 days, if a more detailed examination of your application and/or additional documents are required.
We do recommend lodging visa applications well in advance.
Applications cannot be lodged earlier than three months before the start of the intended journey.
For national visas, processing requires up to 30 days for family reunion and salaried work, and up to 120 days for self-employment work.
