The Italian Civil Protection organized on Tuesday 5 August in collaboration with Mongolia’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), a workshop titled “Strengthening national capacities for building climate and disaster resilient infrastructure”.
Promoted by the Italian Civil Protection Department, in collaboration with the CIMA Foundation, the EUCENTRE Foundation and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the project aims to share the expertise, methodologies and tools that make Italy a global benchmark in disaster risk management.
The project involves eight countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Mongolia, and aims to strengthen the technical, regulatory and operational capacities of governments, infrastructure professionals and policy makers in the field of infrastructure resilience to climate change and natural disasters.
The conference was a key moment for gathering the priorities of Mongolian stakeholders in the field of resilient infrastructure, in view of the next phase of the project, which includes specialized training activities and technical visits to Italy.
Major General Ariunbuyan, NEMA Chief, opened the meeting, emphasizing the wish to continue this fruitful exchange of experiences and good practices with Italy. Ambassador Giovanna Piccarreta highlighted the intensification and deepening of bilateral relations between Italy and Mongolia, in the framework of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two Countries.
The conference was attended by Agostino Goretti (Italian Civil Protection Department) and Roberto Rudari (Programme Director of the CIMA Foundation), who illustrated the Italian approach to infrastructure resilience and prevention and led the thematic discussions.
